Suduko Quilt

Despite having three pair of pants and a top for the Divine Miss cut out and waiting for me to sew them up, I've become obsessed with the idea of making another quilt. Crazy, I know, because I swore up and down that my first quilt would be my last. I was so aggravated with trying to quilt the thing that I would never do another one.

A year has passed and so have the aggravating memories. We've done a little home re-decorating as well and a certain very blank wall above my stairs needs some color. I decided, since apparently I can't cut straight enough for the accuracy needed for quilting, that I would buy a pre-cut quilt kit for this project and found the Moda Fabrics Perennials Sudoku kit at Fabric.com. The kit comes with 81 pre-cut squares in 9 fabrics, a puzzle that needs to be solved and instructions. I also needed to purchase the backing, sashing and border fabrics.

Here are the pre-cut squares:

With help from CoolBoy, we solved the puzzle that came with the kit (the answer is also on the Moda Fabrics website). I numbered the fabrics and laid out the squares at CoolBoy's Boy Scout meeting (had one person offer to rearrange my blocks, not knowing that it was a puzzle) and that's where it stands now.

Piecing (my favorite part of quilting) should go pretty quickly. I'm thinking of using this tutorial for doing the actual quilting as it makes more sense than wresting the entire quilt on the treadle. This quilt, having nice neat blocks separated by sashing, seems to be an excellent candidate for this experiment.

Since I only use the treadle when the rest of the family needs me upstairs, it will probably take another year to complete this little quilt (it will only end up 46 x 46, maybe a bit bigger if I widen the borders.

So it begins again.
