While I have been sewing and am still working on the denim skirt I've planned for Sprite, what I have mostly been doing is sewing on Scout patches. First Dude! (formerly known as Coolboy) brought home six merit badges and moved up in rank during summer camp. He had earned two more since the last Court of Honor bring his total to 8 merit badges. He also became the APL of his patrol, so that made 10 patches to be sewn on his uniform and sash.
Then Sprite joined Brownies and I had another whole set of patches to start her vest. Finally, dear Husband signed on as troop chaplain which required another uniform and another set of patches.
I finally figured out that the best way to sew on patches is to use Wonder Tape and clear quilting thread. That way, no matter what color the patch, I can just sew on all the patches at once without changing thread. I used the special foot for my Singer 401 and a zig zag stitch. Makes for a practically invisible attachment for the patch and it can't be seen if I sew straight or not.
I am done sewing patches, for now, and am eager to get back to the denim skirt. The denim top is done and the bottom layers are gathered and ready to sew. All I have left is to attach the bottom layers to the top, the back pockets, belt loops, button holes and buttons.
Hopefully I will get it done by the weekend so I can start something else.
